Navy Dad
The dis-oriented author is now a Navy dad. My eldest son just graduated from college with a degree in French. Since he was not sure what he wanted to do with his degree, he decided to enlist.
Soon he will report to Great Lakes Naval Training Center and then go off to the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, California. He would like to learn Chinese or Arabic.
The Navy will decide which language he will learn.
Giving the state of the world today, languages may come in handy. They also offer Korean and Farsi.
I have to admit that I am proud of my son. When we go to attend his graduation from basic training, I plan on buying all the Navy Dad schwag I can.
My son is a college graduate. He is smart and talented (he started college on a piano performance scholarship and he is a singer.) He is now a sailor and a volunteer. These are the sort of people we have serving in our military.
Despite what you may think of the conflict — and I have been a critic — young people such as this deserve our support, our prayers and our thanks.
